Kill the Design-to-Dev Handover — Figma API Automation & Design Systems

Berlin-based Full Stack Architect automating the pipeline between Figma and production code, so design and frontend teams stop waiting on each other.

Client & Context

Dr. Oetker — current role as IT Specialist / Frontend Architect (Aug 2025 – Present), owning the design-to-code pipeline for the Greenfield multi-brand platform.

The Problem

The design team ships components in Figma faster than frontend can hand-build them. The handover — manually re-creating tokens, spacing, and states in code — was the bottleneck slowing every release.

My Role

Engineered and own a custom internal tool that automates CSS token extraction directly from Figma, end to end — from the Figma API integration to production rollout.

What Was Built

A Figma API pipeline that turns design tokens and components directly into production code — eliminating the manual handover between design and frontend teams.

Technical Approach

Figma API Automation

Design tokens extracted and synced directly from Figma into the codebase — no manual copy-paste.

Themable Component Libraries

Atomic Design component systems that stay in sync with the Figma source of truth.

Faster Release Cycles

Handover time cut from days to hours — design changes ship the same week they're made.

Zero Visual Drift

Production UI stays pixel-accurate to design, automatically — not by manual QA.

Result

  • Saving 3 days per handover cycle
  • DesignOps cycle cut from days to hours
  • Continuous deployment to the Greenfield architecture while maintaining 95+ Lighthouse scores
